  Scale-X fluid conditioning technology has a proven history of stopping scale and biofilm from forming in water systems.   
  Examples of chronic scale problems eliminated using ScaleX fluid conditioning technology are:-

     1. A building air conditioning system next to an open cut brown coal mine, and
     2. An offshore platform processing subterranean formation "hard" water are:-    
 		  
 

 		  
  1.  Building Air-Conditioning System
Scale-X eliminated scale in a building air-conditioning system where both the condenser and cooling tower required cleaning every 1 to 2 months. 		  
  This system, operated by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Australia (SECV), was located adjacent to an open cut brown coal mine and suffered from the ingress of air born particles from the mine.   
     
  Scale and sludge (biofilm or slime) build up was so severe that both the condenser and the cooling tower required cleaning every 1 to 2 months otherwise the system would trip out on high head pressure. The SECV air-conditioning engineer - J M Lobley - reported to an International Maintenance Management Conference in Australia that Scale-X eliminated this chronic scale and biofilm problem. This Scale-X technology is much more effective than the conventional chemical method.

Elimination or prevention of the sludge (biofilm - slime) eliminates and prevents algae and eliminates the Legionella danger.
 		  
 

 		  
  2.  Offshore Platform Oil-Water Separation System
Scale-X eliminated a chronic scale problem on a Petronas/Carigali (PCSB) offshore oil platform processing subterranean water which scaled at a rate of 30mm every 3 months, that is, a thickness of 10mm per month. 		  
  This oil/water separation system which was processing very "hard" subterranean (formation) water suffered from calcium carbonate (calcite) scale which is the most common scale problem in air-conditioning systems.  The rate of scale build up was 10mm thickness per month. ScaleX developed special "application specific" Magnetic Fluid Conditioners (MFCs) for this project.   
     
  The Petronas/Carigali Maintenance Engineer PM Operations - Zulkifli Abdul Rahim - reported in his technical paper tabled at a Shell Fluid Chemistry Forum in Miri East Malaysia that:-  
     
  (a)  The Tinggi A platform “had the worst scale problem of all the PCSB platforms in Malaysia and the Scale-X Magnetic Fluid Conditioners (MFC’s) were installed on the most severe scale problem on the Tinggi A platform.”   
     
  (b)  ”Scale-X MFC’s exceeded the PCSB specification in all categories and:-   
        ●  completely stopped the scale build up in the standpipes and the control valves,  
        ●  removed pre-existing scale build up,  
        ●  showed that chemical scale inhibitors can be eliminated and  
        ●  maintained production output at 100% continuously.”

  Why is it important to maintain system efficiency at 100% ...?  
 

Typical building air-conditioning systems using the conventional chemical dosing technology suffer average reductions in efficiency of 10 to 25%.  This translates into increased running costs of 11 to 33% and much higher for poorly maintained systems.  There is no reduction in efficiency or increase in running costs when using Scale-X fluid conditioning technology.

  
     




 
  How does Scale-X® Fluid Conditioning Technology Work..?  
  Scale-X fluid conditioning technology creates small non-molecular bonding scale crystals with rounded edges.  These crystals have a tendency against depositing as scale.  
  This technology is based on the principle used in electric generators, that is, the interaction between a magnetic field and a conductor (coil) passing through the field which causes an electric current (electric charge) to flow through the conductor.

  In the case of Scale-X fluid conditioning technology, the principle relates to the interaction between a magnetic field and the scale crystals passing through the magnetic field which causes a change in the charge on the scale crystals.  This modified charge on the crystals results in the formation of small scale crystals with rounded edges as demonstrated by Dr Kronenberg of the California State Polytechnic University.  These small rounded crystals have a tendency against depositing as scale on the walls of the tubes and vessels, leaving their surfaces continually clean.

This technology applies to organic as well as inorganic diamagnetic scale crystals.  The Society of Petroleum Engineers International reported in 1997 an estimated 14400 Magnetic Fluid Conditioners (MFCs) being used successfully in onshore oil fields in China to treat paraffin, an organic crystal.

Scale-X Fluid Conditioning Technology totally eliminated a subterranean hard water (formation water) chronic scale problem on a South China Sea offshore oil platform.		  

Scale-X using specially developed Magnetic Fluid Conditioners (MFCs) eliminated the following chronic calcium carbonate (calcite) scale problem in very "hard" subterranean (formation) water which comes up with the oil.  Rate of scale deposition was as high as 30mm thickness in three months, that is, 10mm thickness per month .

These photographs show the difference between using chemical inhibitors (after 3 months) and using Scale-X MFCs (after 8 months).  Refer to  Petronas Carigali maintenance engineer's technical paper presented at a Shell Fluid Chemistry Forum for the engineer's detailed report on this Scale-X application.  The rate of scale build up was 10mm thickness per month


  


  

Control valves suffered similar chronic scaling and Scale-X completely eliminated the problem and they remained fully operational continuously.

Before the Scale-X MFCs were installed the platform had to be shutdown every 3 months to de-scale the oil-water separation vessels and pipework, and production had dropped to 82%.

With the MFCs installed the platform did not require to be shutdown again for de-scaling of this system and production remained constant at 100%.

The Scale-X MFCs were installed in the 12 meter long and 4 meter diameter separation vessels on the stand pipe exits.
