Locating and installing the Pipe Insert Type MGC

Used only in vertical piping applications

The pipe insert type MFCs are located at a pipe flanged joint or in a pipe spool as shown in the diagram to the right.  Each unit is designed for the particular application, that is, they are "application specific" and no "off the shelf" units are available. These incorporate flow profiling and velocity amplification.

For an MFC installed at a flanged joint in existing pipework a spiral wound gasket without an inner ring is used.  Where the MFC is installed in a new spool between two gaskets, either spiral wound or rubber/composite gaskets can be used.  This type of installation allows for simple retrofitting of the units.

Sizes range from 6 inch (150mm) diameter pipes upwards.

The following is an example of an insert type MFC being installed at an existing flanged joint with the MFC locating ring of the MFC replacing the inner ring of the spiral wound gasket.

Installation when the MFC is supplied pre-installed in a pipe spool

When the MFC is to be installed in a spool,  MTA can supply the spool with the MFC already installed.  This makes the cutting and flanging of the pipe work and installation of the spool a relatively quick and simple process.

To install the spool with the MFC pre-installed:-

1.  Cut and remove a section of pipe

2.  Slide flanges onto the pipe as shown

3.  Locate the spool which has the flanges, MFC and gaskets installed into position.

4.  Bolt and tighten the flanges on the pipe up to the flanges on the spool

5.  Weld the flanges to the pipe.
