Scale-X Fluid Conditioning Technology

                                   STEAM  BOILERS

Scale-X can significantly
reduce running costs

Scale buildup in steam boilers can be completely eliminated using Scale-X fluid control technology.

The conventional method of controlling scale in steam boilers is by chemical dosing.  This method only slows the rate of scale buildup with the result that the systems are always running at less than 100% efficiency and can be considerably less than 100% if the boilers are not cleaned on a regular basis.

With Scale-X MFCs installed, scale can be totally  eliminated.  The system is maintained at 100% efficiency which results in considerable savings in running costs and reduced down time.

Enlarge - Locate the MFCs as close as possible to the entry
of the feed water to the boiler if space allows.

  Installation of MFCs

The Scale-X magnetic fluid conditioners are installed externally to the feed water piping.  They are installed preferably just prior to entry to the boiler or if there is insufficient space there (accessible straight length of piping) then they are mounted just prior o the boiler feed pump.

The MFC is to be installed on pipes of non magnetic material only. For boiler systems with stainless steel piping the MFCs can be clamped directly onto the pipes. For systems with carbon steel piping, install a 300 series stainless steel spool of length 1100mm on which to mount the MFC. For boiler pressures less than 400psi use Sch40 SS pipe for the spool and above 400psi use Sch80 SS pipe.

  Cause of scale build up

Water supplies contain diamagnetic mineral salts, the predominate one being calcium carbonate and this forms scale build up on the heat transfer surfaces of the boiler.  This is due to evaporation taking place at the heating tube surface.  When the small bubbles form the calcium ions and the CO2 released combine to from CaCO3.  The scale is predominately in the form of calcite, the most common substance treated by magnetic fluid treatment.

Maintenance of water system with MFCs installed

MFC's can totally eliminate the scale build up and increase efficiency by keeping the heat transfer surfaces clean.

When the MFCs are first installed there may be an increase in the total dissolved solids (TDS) until all the pre-existing scale deposits are totally removed.

If the boiler systems has a severe problem with removing dissolved oxygen, it then may be preferable to install a second MFC just prior to the deaerator or hot water tank.  Magnetic water treatment reduces the surface tension by about 10% which will assist in reducing the oxygen levels.

  Benefits of Scale-X MFCs

When the magnetic fluid conditioning has removed the existing scale the boiler will operate much more efficiently.

The resultant benefits are:
    • Lower fuel costs
    • The boiler consistently maintains a higher output
    • Lower maintenance costs
    • Less shutdowns thus maintaining greater availability
    • Elimination of scale and corrosion inhibitors and oxygen     scavengers
    • Removal of pre-existing scale
    • Increase in the rate of heat transfer
    • Safer working environment without the hazardous chemicals
    • Fewer and/or shorter blowdowns
    • The MFC is:-
               (1) a “once off cost”,
               (2) maintenance free,
               (3) does not require a power connection or
               (4) a monitoring system to ensure it is operational and
               (5) is environmentally safe and friendly.
